The Salford Bridge. Unlike a conventional drawbridge, splitting in the middle and raising on a hinge vertically, this bridge raises itself up as a lift shown below. It raises a full 18 meters up to allow boats through beneath it. This bridge interested me for the obvious reason, unfortunately we did not get to see it in action but I went on youtube to see it and the mechanics of the lift hydraulics are rather special.

The Salford BBC plot really uses its space nicely with a large square surrounded on 3 sides with large glass buildings. The square faces the canal allowing the sunlight to flood into it and the buildings that surround it.

Shown below is one of the buildings on the BBC plot in Salford, a very clever design allowing the morning sun to reflect off it through the tight space between two buildings into the main square.

Extra notes:

Imperial War Museum: Very interesting building shape - looked futuristic

Pink office bulding next to it, not very aesthetically pleasing, probably needs knocking down
