Project 1.3.1 - Surveying

For this project we have been given a building in the local Northampton area to survey. The aims of the project are to initiate development of 2D and 3D hand drawn and measured surveying skills. Practice of record keeping and information display which can later be digitalised for purposes of project development and design.

Some of the surveying will be done on site using a theodolite as well as the completion of various sketches. However we begin the project in the class room learning how to use the equipment and presenting a group presentation that I completed with Aaron on surveying. We covered three topics starting with the history of surveying before getting into the detail of Analogue and Digital surveying.

We had a couple of lessons using the theodolite which would be a useful tool when surveying our building. A Theodolite can be used as a tool for measuring the height of a building or measuring the height change between two points. It uses right angles triangle trigonometry to accurately measure heights.
